Sheikh Hasina had been trying to suppress nationwide protests against her government since early July but fled the country after Sunday's brutal riots left nearly 100 people dead, taking the death toll since the anti-government protests began to over 300.
The protests began in June after student groups demanded the end of a controversial quota system in government jobs, turning into a movement that later toppled Sheikh Hasina's rule.
