News Topical, Digital Desk : Four crew members were killed and four others were missing after an oil-drilling ship capsized in the Gulf of Suez. Egypt’s petroleum ministry said the drilling ship capsized Tuesday evening near the city of Ras Gharaib on the African side of the Gulf of Suez, a vital shipping route.

Amr Hanafi, governor of the Red Sea province, said 30 workers were aboard the drilling liner when it capsized. Rescue teams recovered four bodies and rescued 22 others. He said the Egyptian navy was involved in rescue efforts and was looking for four missing crew members. It was not immediately clear what caused the drilling liner to capsize and officials said an investigation was ongoing.

Local media reported that the ship was being towed to another area for drilling when it capsized. The ministry said the incident occurred in an area called Gabel el-Jeit, a major Egyptian oil production site about 300 kilometers south of the Suez Canal. Admiral Osam Rabei, head of the canal authority, said the capsizing did not cause any hindrance to ships passing through the canal.
