New Delhi: The Gujarat government has received a big blow from the Supreme Court in the Bilkis Bano case. The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the Gujarat government's petition seeking a review of the order of release of the convicts in the Bilkis Bano case.

Application for listing of the petition dismissed

The bench of Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan also rejected the application to list the review petition in open court. The court said that we have carefully looked at the review petitions, the challenged order and the documents attached with it.

There is no merit in the review petitions

The court further said that after looking at all the documents, we are satisfied that there is no error on record or merit in the review petitions which requires reconsideration of the order. The bench said that therefore the review petitions are dismissed.

What did the Gujarat government say in the petition?

The Gujarat government had said in its petition that the Supreme Court's statement in its January 8 verdict that it had acted in collusion with the culprits was not correct. This comment of the court is inappropriate. However, the Supreme Court disagreed with this argument of the state government.
