New Delhi: PM Modi appeals to SC judges Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday stressed the need for speedy justice in cases of crimes against women and said this would give women greater confidence in their safety.

Modi also said that the judiciary is considered the guardian of the Constitution and the Supreme Court and the judiciary have performed their responsibilities very well.

Addressing the inaugural session of the National Conference of District Judiciary in the presence of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Modi said that the people of India have never shown any distrust in the Supreme Court or the judiciary.

Emergency was called a dark period

Describing the Emergency as a "dark" period, the Prime Minister said the judiciary played a key role in upholding fundamental rights. On matters of national security, Modi said the judiciary safeguarded national integrity by keeping national interests paramount.
