New Delhi: The Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) has expressed deep concern over the increasing attacks on Hindus, Buddhists and other minority communities in Bangladesh and claimed that these attacks are part of a well-planned conspiracy by Islamic fundamentalists aimed at eliminating the Hindu population and seizing their properties under the guise of reservation.
There are approximately 1.3 crore Hindus in Bangladesh.
The Forum's national convenor Shahid Saeed said that the life, property and honour of about 1.30 crore Hindus in Bangladesh are in grave danger. He said that at the time of Bangladesh's independence, the population of Hindus was 29 percent but now this number has come down to less than nine percent.
Violence against Hindus continues
Saeed warned that if strict measures are not taken to stop these attacks, Bangladesh is in danger of following the path of Pakistan. He stressed that the movement against reservation in Bangladesh seems to be just an excuse as violence against Hindus continues unabated.
Their homes, shops and temples are being targeted in a systematic manner. He urged the Yunus government to take decisive action to deal with these attacks and ensure the safety of the Hindu community.
