Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has suspended three senior IPS officers, including a DG rank officer. The government on Sunday issued separate orders suspending the IPS officers who are accused of hastily arresting and harassing a Mumbai model in a case registered against her without proper investigation.

The suspended officers include former intelligence chief P. Sitaram Anjaneyulu (DG rank), former Vijayawada police commissioner Kranti Rana Tata (IG rank) and then deputy commissioner of police (Vijayawada) Vishal Gunni (SP rank).

Arrested on the complaint of a Congress leader

The model alleged that during the previous interrogation, police officials had threatened her with dire consequences if she did not withdraw a case filed against a top official of a corporation in Mumbai. The model was arrested earlier this year on the complaint of a YSR Congress leader during the previous government.

The model was accused of fraud. According to records, the FIR against the model was lodged on February 2, while Anjaneyulu directed Rana Tata and Vishal Gunni to arrest her on January 31.

16 IPS officers were included

The model had recently lodged a complaint against the police officers, alleging that a false case was registered against her and she was harassed. These three officers were among the 16 IPS officers who were directed to mark their attendance at the DGP office twice a day without any post. During the assembly election campaign in April, the TDP had targeted Anjaneyulu and alleged that the previous YSR Congress government was tapping the phone of TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh through Pegasus spying software.
