PM Modi to visit Seychelles after 11 years, to be ‘Guest of Honour’ at National Day celebrations
News Topical, Digital Desk : PM Modi will go to Seychelles on a state visit from June 27-29 as a special guest to attend Seychelles’ National Day Golden Jubilee celebrations. During the visit he will have talks with Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminy and review all aspects of bilateral cooperation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Seychelles from 27-29 June on a State Visit and will attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Seychelles National Day as the Guest of Honour. PM Modi last visited Seychelles in 2015 and this will be his first visit after a gap of 11 years. He is to be received by Seychelles President Dr Patrick Herminie. A contingent of the Indian Defence Forces and two Indian Navy ships will also participate in the celebrations, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie during this visit to review all aspects of bilateral cooperation. The two leaders will also discuss the Indian Ocean region, maritime security and other issues of regional and global concern. PM Modi will also speak to the National Assembly of Seychelles and hold discussions with members of the Indian diaspora.
Seychelles is an important maritime partner for India
Seychelles is an important maritime partner of India in the Indian Ocean region, the Ministry of External Affairs said. This setting makes Seychelles significant for India’s Vision Ocean (mutual and inclusive progress for regional security and development) and its engagement with the Global South. The visit is expected to further deepen the historical, cultural and strategic linkages between India and Seychelles. The visit as a whole will further strengthen the strong and enduring friendship between India and Seychelles and reinforce the common commitment of both countries to enhance bilateral relations across all sectors.
Seychelles President visits India in February
PM Modi had met President of Seychelles Dr. Patrick Herminie in Hyderabad House in February 2026. President Herminie was on a state visit to India, having arrived in Delhi after engagements in Chennai and Mumbai. His visit, till Feb 10, was his first to India after assuming office in Oct 2025. The Ministry of External Affairs said then that Seychelles was a key maritime neighbour and a key partner to India’s Ocean Vision and highlighted Delhi’s commitment to cooperate with the global south.
