News Topical, Digital Desk : Gram Chikitsalay Season 2 Review: Amazon Prime Video has dropped the second season of ‘Gram Chikitsalay’ and this government village hospital is again the talk of the town. If you’re sitting on the fence about adding this new entry to your watchlist, be sure to check out our review.

Review for Gram Chikitsalay 2: When TVF makes a show, its rule is to make a chill environment and to converse with the heart of the audience. This means that the story may not have excessive action, bloodshed or screaming drama, but it should have a sense of comfort and familiarity that the viewers can enjoy while sipping tea. TVF’s hit show “Gram Chikitsalay” makes its return to the digital age of 2026 with season 2 in the same simple style. The show is helmed by director Lalitam Tiwari and this rural comedy (series based in a village) picks up from where the first season left off. To sum up, “Gram Chikitsalay 2” brings back the perfect comfort with the old simplicity, light-hearted humour and the same rustic rural feel. But is this new season just capitalizing on nostalgia or have the lives of these characters from Bhatkandi village actually moved forward in a real sense? Has Doctor Sahib managed to win the villagers over completely this time? Let’s talk about this in depth.

Story: Like the last season, this season too is about our idealistic and simple doctor Prabhat Sinha (Amol Parashar) who has come from the city to serve at the Primary Health Center (PHC), a government hospital, in the small village of Bhatkandi. The sweet and bitter banter continues in Season 2 between the learned city doctor and the simple villagers who live their lives according to their own customs. His old team is back on duty to help the doctor, including his ever late compounder Futani, ward boy Govind and sweeper Dhelu.

There is also Dr. Gargi, a colleague of Dr. Prabhat who becomes his friend and the village quack who considers Prabhat his competition. This time the story takes an interesting turn as slowly but unwillingly the villagers begin to understand the importance of a true “doctor sahib” and how they can really save lives. Meanwhile, the threat of a hospital inspection team looms over the village, but the village has its own rules and regulations and Dr. Sahib’s medical career takes a unique turn in the midst of it all. What happens next in his life you will have to find out by watching the series on Amazon Prime Video.

What is the Gram Chikitsalaya 2 web series?

Gram Chikitsalaya 2 is a five-episodic series, each of about 40 minutes duration, easy to digest. The biggest plus is that it never gets heavy or boring. TVF has always been strong in creating characters that are quirky and real. The first season had us well familiar with the atmosphere of Bhatkandi village and the unique accent of its people, so viewers were hoping for a more dynamic story this season. The show is paced as expected but there are certain places where the makers have forced scenes to kill time. In one scene, for example, three characters wheel a wheelchair out into the sun and sit down and talk about the gossip and gossip of the village. Such scenes add nothing to the story, they are just a waste of time. Besides, the show suddenly introduces two characters from the “Panchayat” series, which seems more like a gimmick than a narrative necessity. Looks like the makers are trying to cash in on the success of “Panchayat” here. If the makers believed in their material there would be no need for such unnecessary padding.

Direction & Writing

In the story, writers Vaibhav Suman and Shreya Srivastava have added a new villain – a corrupt government official (Dinesh Lal Yadav 'Nirahua') sitting on a stockpile of essential medicines. This track is a reflection of the grim reality of hospitals in rural India where medicines do not arrive on time. But the filmmakers have wisely downplayed the roughness and emphasized a more human and slightly comic side to the corrupt cop.

Lalitam Tiwari’s direction has kept the spirit of the show alive. The show does touch upon issues like gender politics and women’s issues subtly but the makers have wisely avoided delving into heavy and sensitive topics like caste and religion as that would have totally killed the lighthearted and chill vibe of the show.

Performance:

This season’s acting has been even better than before. The producers have addressed nearly all of last season’s complaints. Amol Parasher has convincingly played the part of Dr. Prabhat. There are other actors on screen, but it is Prabhat (Amol’s character) who never gives up in any difficult situation and carries the series forward all by himself. Dr. Gargi has also been wonderful as Akanksha Ranjan. She has good screen presence.

Vinay Pathak, as always, is a delight to watch on screen. He is a doctor trying to save his practice and send his daughter to a real medical college to earn a doctor’s degree making him proud. Anandeshwar Dwivedi as Futani the compounder, ward boy Akash Makhija and cleaner Kartikeya Raj with their flawless comic timing make the show all the more charming.

To watch, or not to watch?

The series is skilled at criticizing superstition and social evils but at one point the makers committed a mistake themselves. In the movie a lonely widow in the society is shown with extremely dirty and unkempt hair and tattered looks feared by people calling her ‘witch’. Social change, when you’re talking about social change, didn’t have to make the character look tired, scary, and old.

The silly wheelchair scenes and the forceful cameos from the characters of the ‘Panchayat’ series hamper the flow of the series a little bit as mentioned above. It seems there was a shortage of content to complete the 5 episodes.

But if we ignore these minor flaws, 'Gram Chikitsalaya 2' is a genuinely endearing and heartwarming series. What really works for the show are its two emotional tracks, both centring on women — one taking a hard look at social superstitions (like sniffing shoes) around epilepsy, the other examining the loneliness and pain of a widow. All in all, this show can be a great choice for your weekend.
