Naagin: After Sridevi's superhit film, Ekta Kapoor's masterplan is ready, will 'Naagin' spread its fun on the big screen after 7 seasons?

Starring Mouni Roy and Adaa Khan, the story of shape-shifting snakes became an overnight hit. Over the past 11 years, the show has been loved nationwide, and its latest season 7 is currently airing on TV. But what if this venture were to make it to the big screen? Exciting, isn't it? Now, it looks like the filmmaker is about to take this franchise to the big screen.

Will Naagin be released as a film?

Balaji Telefilms is in talks to expand the Naagin franchise beyond television. They revealed that Ekta is very excited to transform her TV show into a big-screen experience. While the plans are still in their early stages, there's a lot of curiosity about who will play the title role. 

On television, it's also said that Ekta conducts extensive searches for her "Naagin" cast each season. This is one of her most expensive projects, so she personally oversees the styling, costumes, and other details.

After Sridevi, will Ekta Kapoor's Naagin create a stir?

Given the brand's long-standing popularity and cinematic scale, the makers are exploring the possibility of adapting the franchise into a feature film, aiming to recreate the mythology for the big screen. Discussions are in the early stages, but with the team's experience of making seven successful seasons, the plan could soon become a reality, a source told India Today. 

Sridevi is known as the OG Naagin of Bollywood. Her film "Nagina" was a huge hit with audiences. Ekta Kapoor's Naagin serial is also quite popular on TV. Now the question is, will Ekta Kapoor be able to recreate the same magic on the big screen?

Interestingly, producer Nikhil Dwivedi was also set to revive the popular folk tale of the serpent, with Shraddha Kapoor set to play the lead role. The film initially garnered considerable buzz, but after Stree 2 in 2024, the filmmaker seemed excited to revive the project. However, there have been no updates on the film yet.

And if one female serpent wasn't enough, Karan Johar, in collaboration with Mahavir Jain Films, is developing a fantasy comedy called Naagzilla, starring Kartik Aaryan as Priyamvadeshwar Pyare Chand, a wish-fulfilling serpent. The film is reportedly scheduled to release on Naag Panchami, August 14, 2026.
