absconded after shooting daughter-in-law dead

Civil Lines police station in-charge Darshan Lal Shukla told PTI that the accused, 65-year-old Gyan Singh Gurjar, fled after shooting his 38-year-old daughter-in-law Priyanka with a country-made pistol at around 10 pm on Wednesday. The woman had lost her husband a year ago.

He said the incident took place near the Sikrauda canal in the Civil Lines police station area, about eight kilometers from Morena district headquarters, and the woman died on the spot. Shukla said, "A case has been registered against Gyan Singh on charges of murder and investigation is underway."

The woman was living at her parents' house with her three children

After the death of her husband, the woman was living with her three children at her maternal home. However, she returned to her in-laws' house four days ago. According to the victim's brother Mukesh, Priyanka's father-in-law Gurjar was pressurising her to marry his elder brother's son Dhruv, which his sister did not approve of.

Mukesh alleged, "My sister refused because she already has three children. Because of this, there were frequent fights between them." Police officer Shukla said that the allegations are being investigated.

The accused lost both her sons in the last 18 months. According to the police, Priyanka's husband Ajay Gurjar died on June 9 last year and she has three children - a seven-year-old daughter and two sons aged five and three years.
