News Topical, Digital Desk : Once again, clarification has been presented regarding the controversy arising over Maratha reservation in Maharashtra. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde clearly said on September 8 that the process of giving Kunbi caste certificate to eligible people of Maratha community has only been simplified and there is no question of any new reservation decision in this. He said that this government order (GR) will not cause any harm to the OBC class. This statement has come amid the displeasure and controversy of OBC leaders.

Controversy over GR and Bhujbal's displeasure

State Minister Chhagan Bhujbal had called a meeting of OBC leaders, objecting to the GR. He argued that this step could affect the rights of the OBC community. On this, Shinde clarified that Bhujbal has already been assured that the government order will not affect the interests of OBCs and their reservation quota. The government has only simplified the process of distribution of certificates.

Under the provisions of the Hyderabad Gazetteer, eligible members of the Maratha community have been allowed to apply for Kunbi certificates. Vikhe Patil, head of the sub-committee of the state cabinet, had talked to Maratha agitator Manoj Jarange on this issue. After this, Jarange ended his 5-day fast movement in Mumbai on September 2. Shinde said that the provision for issuing Kunbi certificates has been there since 2012, the government has only simplified the process of implementing it.

Shinde's assurance and future position

During his Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar tour, Shinde addressed Shiv Sena workers and MLAs and said that there will be no reduction in the rights of the OBC class. He reiterated, "We have not taken any new decision, only the process has been simplified. Only those Maratha families who have historical records will be given Kunbi certificates." After this statement of Shinde, an attempt has been seen to calm the growing restlessness among the Maratha and OBC communities.
