News Topical, Digital Desk : The French Parliament on Monday ousted Prime Minister Francois Bayrou's government after just nine months in office, leaving President Emmanuel Macron with difficulties in finding a successor and the country plunged into a new political crisis.

Barrow also surprised his allies by deciding to hold a confidence vote to break a long-running deadlock over his austerity budget, which plans to cut costs by about 44 billion euros ($52 billion) to reduce France's soaring debt.

French PM will have to resign

According to media reports, Berro will resign on Tuesday (September 09, 2025). In the voting held in the National Assembly, 364 representatives expressed their no confidence in the government, while only 194 expressed confidence in the government. Speaker Yael Brown Pivet said, "According to Article 50 of the Constitution, the Prime Minister must resign his government."

Why did Macron's troubles increase?

Barro is the sixth prime minister since Macron became president in 2017, but the fifth since 2022. Barro's removal will leave the French president with a new problem in domestic affairs while he leads diplomatic efforts over the Ukraine war.

Defending himself, Berro told the National Assembly, "The biggest risk was that there was no vote of confidence, so that things could continue without any changes and everything would remain as before."
