News Topical, Digital Desk : Police has exposed a big scandal of blackmailing Buddhist monks by engaging them in sexual relationships in Thailand. It is alleged that 35-year-old woman Vilavan Amsawat had physical relations with Buddhist monks and blackmailed them by making photos and videos of it.

The police arrested the woman from her luxurious house in Nonthaburi, North Bangkok. Her phone contained sex videos and blackmailing chats with several Buddhist monks. The police recovered more than 80 thousand nude files from the woman's house, which she used to blackmail Buddhist monks and extort money from them.

The first case was reported in June

This case came to light in June when the head of a Buddhist monastery in Bangkok suddenly went missing. Police believe that he left Wat Tri Thotsathep Monastery after being blackmailed by a woman. Now the accused woman has claimed that the head is the father of her child. There is a lot of anger among the people after the names of such a large number of Buddhist monks have come to light in this scandal.

Officials investigating the case claim that the woman has earned about Rs 102 crore by blackmailing Buddhist monks in the last 3 years. The Royal Thai Police Central Investigation Bureau said that about 9 abbots involved in the scandal have been removed from the post of nun. The woman is also accused of extortion, money laundering and receiving stolen goods.

Contacted via social media

The woman spent the money she got from this blackmailing on illegal online gambling. According to a report, the accused woman had contacted the monks through social media. One monk claimed that he was in a long-term relationship with the woman and the woman had also gifted him a car. But when he came to know about the woman's relationship with other monks, he started blackmailing her.

Two abbots have been sent to jail in the case. A Senate committee has proposed amendments to the law to criminally prosecute the woman. While many people are advocating action against the monks, a columnist said that this scandal exposes a system of lies and hypocrisy.
