News Topical, Digital Desk : Nearly 9 people have died due to lightning in different parts of Odisha. Officials said that at least 9 people including six women were killed and some others were injured in separate incidents due to lightning during thunderstorms in the state. 3 people died in Koraput district, 2-2 people died in Jajpur and Ganjam. While 1 person each died in Dhenkanal and Gajapati districts. Among the dead, three women lost their lives. An elderly man was injured due to lightning in Lakshmipur.

9 people died due to lightning

According to sources, all those who died in the lightning strike were members of the same family. They were working in the fields when the lightning struck and had taken shelter in a temporary hut as it was raining and strong winds were blowing. A police officer said the lightning struck the hut and the three women died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Brudhi Mandinga (60), his granddaughter Kasa Mandinga (18), and Ambika Kashi (35) of Kumbarguda village. He said Brudhi and Kasa Mandinga were residents of Paridiguda.

Another 65-year-old man, identified as Hang Mandinga, was injured when lightning struck him. The elderly man sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Two boys died after being struck by lightning in Jajpur district. The deceased have been identified as Tare Hembram (15) and Tukulu Chatar (12) of Burusahi village. The official said a case of unnatural death has been registered in connection with the incident and further investigation is underway.
