News Topical, Digital Desk : A simple purchase and sale in Delhi's Rohini area gave birth to an extraordinary story. Chandni Kumari, a resident of Sector 26, sold her old household items and also gave away an iron cupboard for scrap. Unbeknownst to her, she found gold and silver jewelry worth nearly 10 lakh rupees hidden in the same cupboard's locker.

When Ashraf, a scrap dealer from Sector 16, who had purchased the wardrobe, opened it the next day, he was shocked to find a steel box inside the locker. Upon opening the box, he found gold earrings, rings, a mangalsutra, a nose ring, and nearly 20 tolas of silver jewelry. For a moment, it was like testing one's intentions.

I chose responsibility, not greed

Instead of keeping the jewelry for himself, Ashraf decided to return it to its rightful owner. Along with his friends, Naushad and Sartaj, he immediately contacted the family who had sold the wardrobe. Chandni and her husband, Sunil, were shocked when they learned of this. Family's eyes moist, faith strong

The family explained that in their haste, they had neglected to check the locker when selling the wardrobe. The couple was moved to tears when all the jewelry was returned safely. They expressed their gratitude to Ashraf and his associates, saying that such honesty is rare in today's times.

He even turned down the reward and gave a simple lesson

Sunil happily offered a reward of 3,000 rupees, but Ashraf flatly refused. He said that returning someone's deposit is not a favor, but a duty of humanity. Only hard-earned money brings peace.

Inspiration from social media

Ashraf, a resident of Gulaothi town in Uttar Pradesh, has been running a scrap shop in Rohini Sector 16 for the past 10 years. He lives there with his family and earns his living through hard labor. Ashraf explained that he recently saw a story about the honesty of a scrap dealer from Faridabad on social media, which impressed him. Inspired by this, he resolved to never keep anything that belonged to someone else.

This incident in Rohini reminds us once again that trust and truth are still alive in society. Even a small act of honesty can lay the foundation for greater trust.
