News Topical, Digital Desk : External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Friday clarified India's position on several international issues, including buying oil from Russia and Venezuela, monitoring the Iran-US crisis, and ensuring the safety of the Indian community living there.
He also stressed on finalising the India-US trade agreement and India's role in Trump's Board of Peace programme.
Clarifying India's stand on buying oil from Venezuela and Russia, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India has already made its position clear on buying oil from both Russia and Venezuela.
He stated that the statements made on this issue over the past few weeks reflect India's policy. Jaiswal stated that oil will be purchased from Venezuela only if it is commercially viable. This means that this option will be adopted only if the price, quality, and logistics are right. Jaiswal also clarified India's position on purchasing oil from Russia.
He clarified that our energy policy prioritizes the nation's needs and security. Oil procurement decisions will be made with national interest and commercial profit in mind.
He also said that India's only problem with Pakistan is cross-border terrorism, underlining New Delhi's long-standing concern about it. He said India's relations with Afghanistan remain the same.
India keeping an eye on Iran-US conflict
Clarifying India's position on the ongoing tension between Iran and America, he said that India gives priority to the safety of its citizens across the world, bilateral relations and international cooperation.
He said India is closely monitoring the escalating tensions between Iran and the US, and is maintaining constant contact with the Indian community living there to ensure their safety.
India's participation in the Board of Peace
The Ministry of External Affairs clarified India's position on US President Donald Trump's "Board of Peace" program. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India participated in the Board of Peace meeting in Washington, DC, as an observer.
He also stated that India welcomes the Gaza Peace Plan presented by US President Trump. Furthermore, India supports ongoing efforts under UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
Speaking on Israel's plans in the West Bank, Jaiswal clarified that the recent joint statement on Israel's West Bank expansion was not a consensual document. India had already expressed its position on this issue in the joint statement of the India-Arab League Ministerial Meeting.
India-US trade deal in final stages
Randhir Jaiswal also stated that India and the United States recently adopted a joint statement, which states that the two countries are working to finalize a mutually beneficial trade agreement. India's team, led by its chief negotiator, will travel to the United States next week.
