News Topical, Digital Desk : Hindu temples are being continuously targeted in America. In the latest incident, a Hindu temple was damaged in Indiana earlier this week. This incident took place on August 10 at BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Greenwood City.

The Indian Consulate in Chicago took strong note of the incident, calling it "reprehensible". In a statement, the consulate said the main signboard of the temple had been defaced and called for vigilance against vandals in the temple area.

Anti-India and anti-Hindu slogans were written 

"The desecration of the main signboard of the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Greenwood, Indiana is reprehensible," the post said, adding that it has taken up the matter with law enforcement authorities for "prompt action". Anti-India and anti-Hindu slogans were also written on the walls of the temple premises. 

Fourth attack within a year

This is the fourth time a temple has been attacked in less than a year. This incident happened just a few days before Krishna Janmashtami (August 16).

In March, in another similar incident in the US, a California-based BAPS Hindu temple was desecrated by an unidentified person. At the time, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had termed the act as "abhorrent" and urged US law enforcement agencies to take strong action against those responsible.
