India has reacted sharply to the abduction and brutal murder of Hindu minority leader Bhabesh Chandra Roy in Bangladesh. In its reaction, the Ministry of External Affairs said that the latest incident "follows the pattern of systematic persecution of Hindu minorities" under the current Bangladesh government led by Muhammad Yunus. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stressed that "the perpetrators of such previous incidents are roaming free with impunity." The MEA condemned the incident. In his post on X, Jaiswal said, "We have witnessed the abduction and brutal murder of Shri Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a Hindu minority leader in Bangladesh, which is tragic. This murder is part of the systematic persecution against Hindu minorities under the interim government, while the perpetrators of earlier such incidents are roaming free with impunity."

Foreign Ministry criticized

In his post, Randhir Jaiswal further wrote, "We condemn this incident and once again remind the interim government to fulfill its responsibility to protect all minorities, including Hindus, without making any excuses or discriminating." Let us tell you that Bhabesh Chandra Roy was known as the vice-president of the Biral unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and a prominent leader of the Hindu community in the area. But he was first kidnapped and then beaten to death. Citing police and family members, The Daily Star reported that his body was recovered on Thursday night. Roy's wife Shantana told The Daily Star that Roy received a phone call at around 4:30 pm, which she said was made by the criminals to confirm that he was at home.

India-Bangladesh relations soured

Let us tell you that in August last year, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to flee Dhaka due to massive anti-government protests against her. After this, India-Bangladesh relations have deteriorated rapidly. The interim government led by Muhammad Yunus has failed to stop attacks on minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh, which has further deteriorated the relations between the two countries. Meanwhile, India on Friday rejected the comments made by Bangladeshi officials on the violence in West Bengal and asked Dhaka to focus on protecting the rights of its minorities and not engage in "showy morality".

Who was Bhabesh Chandra Roy? How was he murdered?

Roy, 58, was the vice-president of the Biral unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and a prominent leader of the Hindu community in the area. Bhabesh Roy received a call around 4:30 pm on Friday, which he claimed was from the culprits to confirm he was at home, Roy's wife Shantana told The Daily Star. "Around 30 minutes later, four men came to their house on two motorcycles and allegedly abducted Bhabesh from the premises. He was recovered in an injured state and when family members rushed Roy to a hospital, he was unconscious. He was later declared dead on arrival," the report further said.
