News Topical, Digital Desk : The first season of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's web series "Heeramandi" was released in May last year and, just like on the big screen, it became a hit on the OTT platform as well. Starring Aditi Rao Hydari, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Sonakshi Sinha, Farida Jalal, and Sharmin Segal, the series' story was well-received by audiences.
"Heeramandi" presented the audience with everything from the emotions of the "tawaifs" to the harsh realities of their world. The makers had already announced that a second part would be released. Now, a new update has emerged regarding "Heeramandi 2," revealing how the series' story will unfold.
Work on the script of Heeramandi 2 has begun
The makers have begun work on Heeramandi 2. Vibhu Puri, one of the writers of Netflix's Heeramandi, told Mid Day, “We are currently in the writing stage of the series and are working on the characters and storyline. People were skeptical about whether today's generation would understand the concept, but they have embraced the world of Heeramandi.”
Before Vibhu Puri, Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself had also talked about the story of 'Heeramandi 2' and also explained how big a responsibility this series is. Speaking to Variety, Bhansali said, “A lot goes into making a series, and it really took time. After the release of Gangubai, I worked on this series every day without any breaks.”
Will 'Nawab' not be there in the story of Hiramandi 2?
The first season of Heeramandi revolved around revenge. Mallika Jaan (Manisha Koirala) kills Rehana and then sells her daughter Faridan (Sonakshi Sinha). After growing up, Faridan returns to Heeramandi to seek revenge. In Heeramandi, the courtesans perform mujra for the Nawabs. However, in the second season, the courtesans of Heeramandi will no longer dance for the Nawabs.
Bhansali also said in the same interview, "Heeramandi 2 will depict the journey of women from Lahore into the film industry. After Partition, most of them left Lahore and settled in the Mumbai and Kolkata film industries. So, their journey in Hiramandi Bazaar is similar; they have to sing and dance, but this time they will be seen dancing not for the 'nawabs' but for the producers. That's how we are planning the second season."
