News Topical, Digital Desk : A newborn baby, a doctor and two others were charred to death when an ambulance caught fire near Modasa town in Gujarat's Aravalli district early on Tuesday, police said.
Police Inspector DB Vala said the fire broke out in the ambulance on Modasa-Dhansura Road around 1 am when the one-day-old baby, who was ill after birth, was being taken from a Modasa hospital to a private hospital in Ahmedabad for further treatment.
The child, his father Jignesh Mochi (38), Ahmedabad-based doctor Shantilal Rentia (30) and Aravalli-based nurse Bhuriben Manat (23) died, he said. Two of Mochi's relatives, the private ambulance driver and three others suffered burn injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital, the official said.
SP DB Vala said, "Jignesh Mochi was a resident of neighbouring Mahisagar district and his newborn baby was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Modasa after birth. While he was being taken to another private hospital, the ambulance caught fire due to some unknown reason on the way."
