News Topical, Digital Desk : Tipra Motha Party (TMP) MLA Philip Reang on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Tripura police accusing Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma's son and three others of issuing death threats to him and his family members. The TMP is an ally of the ruling BJP in Tripura, while Jishnu Dev Varma has been the state's deputy chief minister.
What is the whole matter?
In his complaint, Riyang claimed that the incident took place inside the MLA Hostel in Khajur Bagan area of West Tripura on Monday night and was "part of a deep conspiracy". "I was talking to my family members... when three persons came near the stairs of my quarters and stopped me inappropriately and started interfering in our family discussion," the TMP MLA said in his written complaint lodged at the New Capital Complex (NCC) police station.
threatened to slit throat
Riyang alleged that when he asked them to leave, "they became more aggressive and started using violent and abusive language targeting me, even threatening to slit my throat." He alleged that three people, including Telangana Governor's son Pathik Dev Varma, came out of BJP MLA Pramod Riyang's quarters. The TMP MLA claimed that they said they would bring 400 to 500 BJP workers to kill me and my family members. Riyang said in the complaint that he "saved his life" by taking shelter at TMP MLA Biswajit Kalai's residence. He said he and his family members were feeling unsafe after the threat.
TMP is an ally of BJP
Riyang said, "I have named two people including Pathik Dev Verma in my complaint. I could not identify the other two." Asked if he wanted a settlement outside the legal system as the TMP is a constituent of the BJP-led coalition government, he said the officer-in-charge of the police station has assured him that the police will take action according to the law. "I will move forward step by step," said Kanchanpur MLA Riyang.
What did the DGP say?
Earlier in the day, DGP Anurag Dhankhar had said that there was an argument between the MLA and three unknown people at the 'MLA Hostel' on Monday night. The DGP said, "The police have started an investigation to identify those who threatened the MLA. Usually only guests are allowed to enter the 'hostel'. We are investigating the matter seriously."
Delegation of TMP MLAs met CM
Expressing concern over the incident, a delegation of TMP MLAs met Chief Minister Manik Saha in his office and urged him to ensure the safety of the MLAs in the 'MLA Hostel'. The BJP has not yet reacted to the allegation. Tripura's main opposition party TMP joined the BJP-led government in March last year ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The party has 13 members in the Assembly.
