News Topical, Digital Desk : After the scorching heat, the monsoon has finally arrived. Heavy rains are continuing in many parts of the country. Rains are good in many ways, but in this season, along with the pleasant weather, many problems also come along. These days, many types of infections are very common. Fungal infection (monsoon fungal infection prevention) is one of them, which remains a problem for many people during the monsoon.

This season brings relief from the heat, but with rain and greenery, it also creates the perfect environment for fungal infections to thrive. The warm, humid and sweaty environment, which is common during the rainy season, helps the fungus grow rapidly, especially on the skin, nails and feet. In such a situation, Dr. Ritupurna Dash, Skin Specialist at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Vaishali, tells us why this infection occurs and how to protect yourself from it-

Why do fungal infections occur during monsoon?

The doctor said that  fungal infections  are usually caused by fungi such as Candida and dermatophytes, which thrive in moist areas. Excessive sweating, walking in wet shoes or wearing tight clothes can increase your risk of infections such as athlete's foot, ringworm (tinea) and fungal rashes in skin folds (monsoon season hygiene tips).

Do not ignore these symptoms

  • red, itchy, flaky, or cracked skin
  • Discoloration or thickening of fingernails or toenails
  • Circular rash with clear skin in the center
  • Persistent itching in the armpits, groin, under the breasts

How to prevent fungal infection (tips for Monsoon Fungal Infection)

  • Always towel dry thoroughly after bathing, especially between the toes and in the folds of the body.
  • To avoid sweating,   choose loose and cotton clothes .
  • Avoid wearing wet clothes, socks or shoes for a long time.
  • Shower twice a day, especially after the gym or outdoor sports.
  • Apply anti-fungal powder on sensitive areas like feet, armpits or groin to reduce moisture.
  • Never share your personal items such as towels, socks, shoes and razors.
  • Keep your nails short and clean during the rainy season. Fungus can easily hide under long nails.
  • People suffering from diabetes are at greater risk, so they need to take extra precautions.
  • Never use any cream without consulting a doctor as they may contain steroids or keratolytic ingredients, which may provide temporary relief but can worsen the infection.

When to seek medical help?

If you notice persistent itching, spreading rash, or discoloration of the skin, and home remedies do not improve, consult a dermatologist. Early treatment can prevent the infection from becoming severe or recurring.
