New Delhi. Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra has said that the government will do a comprehensive review of the Direct Tax Code in the next six months. The departmental committee is working in this direction and within six months a draft will be issued for changes in the Direct Tax Code on which stakeholders will be able to give their opinion. The new code will be implemented only after talking to everyone.
Tax related rules will be simplified
Speaking at an event organised by industry body FICCI, Malhotra said the government wants to make tax rules simple and hassle-free and is looking to implement them in a collaborative manner.
He said that our aim with the new proposal is to recover tax wherever it is due, but the recovery should be done in a respectable manner. We have to trust the taxpayers and only then can taxes be collected smoothly. He said that in this year's budget, an attempt has been made to simplify the tax process for the taxpayers.
