Transport employees of all the four road transport corporations of the state (KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC and KKRTC) have decided to go on a statewide strike from today over their various demands. Security has been increased in the state due to the strike. All these organizations have decided to keep their employees away from work. Due to this, people will have to face a lot of inconvenience today.
The High Court had given this order
The Karnataka High Court on Monday passed an interim order directing the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of trade unions of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation employees to postpone their proposed strike till Tuesday.
Know what the Transport Minister said?
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that everyone should follow the High Court's direction. He said, "Can the employees violate the court's order? Are they above the court? The state government will bring it to the notice of the court." He further said that the managing directors of all the four RTCs have been directed to run the services as per the scheduled programme.
More than 40 lakh passengers travel every day
Let us tell you that KSRTC, its North-Eastern and North-Western branches and BMTC together provide transport facilities to more than 1.1 crore passengers daily. More than 40 lakh passengers travel daily by BMTC alone.
This is the demand of the employees
Road Transport Corporation employees are demanding 38 months' salary arrears (from January 2020 to February 2023). This is estimated to be around Rs 1,785 crore. The Karnataka government had announced a 15% salary hike in 2020, but this arrears have not been paid yet.
