Bihar: Woman murders daughter after she was caught with lover, court sentences her to death:

News Topical, Digital Desk : A woman in Bihar has been sentenced to death. The case is from Araria. On Thursday (November 27, 2025), the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge IV, Ravi Kumar, found Poonam Devi guilty of murder and handed down the sentence. The woman was accused of brutally killing her 10-year-old daughter. The court ordered that the convict be hanged until death.

This decision relates to Sessions Case No. 582/23. Case No. 380/23, a murder case, was registered at the Narpatganj police station in the district on July 11, 2023. The accused, Poonam Devi (35 years old), wife of Chandan Singh, is a resident of Ramghat Koshikapur Ward 5. The case was registered based on the statement of watchman Bhagwan Kumar Paswan.

What is the whole matter?

The incident occurred on July 10, 2023. The woman's husband worked as a laborer in Punjab to support the family. During this time, Poonam Devi began an illicit relationship with Rupesh Kumar Singh. On June 21, her daughter, Shivani Kumari (10 years old), saw her mother in a suspicious situation with her lover. She threatened to inform her father about the incident. This led to the woman and her lover plotting to murder her.

Fish fed with pesticides

It is said that on the evening of July 10th, Poonam Devi mixed pesticide in fish and fed it to her daughter. After she fell unconscious, she stabbed her in the neck and abdomen with a knife and killed her. She hid the body in a pile of corn and then staged a kidnapping.

Police later recovered the girl's body, the knife, and other evidence from a pile of corn. Additional Public Prosecutor Prabha Kumari, representing the prosecution, demanded a harsh sentence. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court sentenced him to death.
