Mother sold her jewelry for Anupam

Born on 7 March 1955 in Shimla, Anupam Kher's father's salary was 90 rupees at that time, he was a clerk in the Forest Department. However, his mother wanted him to study in a good school, so she even sold her jewelry. But Anupam was interested in becoming an actor and that's why he came to Chandigarh. However, he left his studies midway and joined theater at Punjab University Chandigarh. After this, he took training from National School of Drama Delhi (NSD).

I came to Mumbai and slept on the platform for a month

Anupam's real struggle started after he came to Mumbai from NSD. He had to sleep on the platform for a month. Anupam had to face rejection many times because he did not have hair on his head. Finally he got a chance to work in Mahesh Bhatt's film Saraansh but after preparing for it for months, Anupam was thrown out of it ten days before the shooting. But Anupam stood firm and opposed it. Mahesh Bhatt liked his fearlessness and then he cast Anupam in this film Maa. His debut film proved to be a good start for him because after this he got offers for 57 films simultaneously.

After this, he worked in films like Aakhri Raasta, Karma, and Insaaf Ki Awaaz. In which the audience liked him. Anupam Kher has been awarded the National Award twice for the film Daddy and Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara, while he has also won 8 Filmfare Awards. Interestingly, he won his first Filmfare Award for his debut film Saraansh. Anupam has also been awarded Padma Shri (2004) and Padma Bhushan (2016).

Talking about Anupam's personal life, he first married actress Madhumati in 1979 but they got divorced after a few years. After this, he married actress Kiran Kher in 1985. Kiran already had a son named Sikandar.
