Bangladesh history Preparations are now being made to change history in Bangladesh. The interim government of Mohammad Yunus has announced a major change in the educational curriculum of children. The government is now going to give the credit of its independence in 1971 to Ziaur Rahman instead of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In Bangladesh, Mujibur is known as Bangabandhu. He was also called the Father of the Nation, but now this title has been removed. The Yunus government is constantly trying to erase the history of Mujibur Rahman through several steps. Let's find out how and why this is being done...
Now a different message will be written in the textbooks
As per the order of the Yunus government, the new textbooks will now have a different message. Speaking to the Daily Star, National Textbook Board Chairman Professor AKM Reazul Hasan said that now it will be written that on 26 March 1971, Ziaur Rahman declared the independence of Bangladesh. However, on 27 March, he made another declaration of independence on behalf of Bangabandhu.
Who is Ziaur Rahman?
Ziaur Rahman was born on 19 January 1936 in Bagbari, Bengal. Zia was also the President of Bangladesh from 1977 to 1981. Ziaur Rahman was also known as Zia in Bangladesh. His father Mansoor Rahman was a chemist. Zia's childhood was spent in Kolkata and Bogra.
Ziaur Rahman also founded the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and married current BNP leader Khaleda Zia.
Ziaur Rahman also fought against India in the 1965 Indo-Pak war. On 25 March 1971, after seeing the genocide in Pakistan, Zia launched a rebellion against Pakistan.
On 26 March, after the Pakistani army accepted defeat, Ziaur Rahman announced independence from Kalurghat Radio Station. He said... "I, Major Zia, the provisional commander-in-chief of the Bangladesh Liberation Army... declare the independence of Bangladesh. Now, using this declaration, the Yunus government is preparing to change history.
What does the Awami League have to say?
At the same time, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the father of the recently removed Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He had led the country's liberation movement. Now the Yunus government says that it will change the textbooks and remove the imposed history.
On the other hand, Awami League supporters say that Mujibur Rahman had declared independence while Ziaur Rahman had only followed his instructions.
Attempt to erase the history of Mujibur Rahman
Earlier, the Bangladesh government had removed Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's photo from its currency notes during the phase-out of old notes after his daughter Sheikh Hasina was removed from the post of Prime Minister on August 5.
At the same time, the title of Father of the Nation has also been taken away from Mujibur Rahman.
These could also be reasons for changing history
Actually, the Yunus government can take this step to please the student organizations. At the same time, this can also be done to please Ziaur Rahman's wife Khalida Zia. Actually, BNP was pressurizing the Yunus government to hold elections.
