The rain-hit Delhi-NCR recorded the coldest day of the season on Friday, while snowfall in the hilly areas has increased the cold. However, tourists who came to celebrate New Year were seen enjoying the snowfall.

Delhi receives highest rainfall in 15 years

On Friday, Delhi-NCR recorded the highest rainfall in December in the last 15 years. The Meteorological Department said that the rain started around 2.30 am on Thursday night and continued throughout the day. According to the data of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded 9.1 mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Friday.

The highest rainfall in December was in 1884

Based on the data from 2009 to 2024 available on the Meteorological Department's website, a total of 42.8 mm of rain was recorded in December, which is the highest rainfall in this month in the last 15 years. Meanwhile, the highest ever rainfall in December was recorded in the year 1884, when the city received 134.4 mm of rain.

There is a possibility of rain in these states even today

There are chances of rain in many states including Delhi-NCR today. The Meteorological Department said that dark clouds will remain in the sky in Delhi-NCR, Western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab today. There will be light rain during the day. The average minimum temperature in Delhi-NCR today is expected to be 9 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is expected to be 18 degrees Celsius. 

There will be dense fog in Delhi tomorrow

According to the Meteorological Department, there will be dense fog in the morning and evening in Delhi-NCR. The weather will be clear after noon. There will be bright sunshine during the day. It will be colder on Sunday than on Saturday. On Sunday, the average minimum temperature of Delhi can be recorded at 8 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature at 19 degrees Celsius.

 

The weather will worsen in the new year

According to the Meteorological Department, there are chances of rain again in Delhi-NCR after the New Year i.e. January 1. On January 2 (Thursday), Delhi-NCR will remain cloudy. There may also be light drizzle during this time.

There was an alert of rain in these areas in the early hours of Saturday

At the same time, today the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted lightning along with moderate to heavy rains at many places in Delhi (Palam, Safdarjung, Lodi Road, IGI Airport, Mehrauli, Chhattarpur, Ayanagar, Dera Mandi), NCR (Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar) late at night. 

Tourists enjoying snowfall in Himachal

There is light rain as well as snowfall in Himachal, Kashmir and Uttarakhand. A large number of tourists have arrived in the mountains. All the tourists are enjoying the snowfall in Himachal in December.

 

Rain alert in UP and Delhi-NCR too

The Meteorological Department wrote on Friday night, 'There is a possibility of rain around 4 am in Yamunanagar, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Hodal of Haryana, Saharanpur, Gangoh, Deoband, Muzaffarnagar, Sakauti Tanda, Baraut, Daurala, Baghpat, Meerut, Modinagar, Kithor, Nandgaon of Rajasthan, Tijara, Alwar and Delhi-NCR of Uttar Pradesh.

Rain alert in these districts of Haryana

There is a rain alert in Haryana for the second day as well. Rain started in many places including Panipat since morning. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert in Karnal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Panchkula.

Clouds also rained in Haryana and Punjab

On the other hand, there was rain at many places in Punjab and Haryana on Friday, due to which the day temperature dropped drastically in both the places. The maximum temperature in Chandigarh, which was affected by hailstorm, was recorded at 15.9 degrees Celsius, which is eight degrees below normal for this season. 

Temperature dropped due to rain

According to the Meteorological Department, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Pathankot in Punjab received rain. The maximum temperature at these places was recorded at 13.7, 14.8, 14.6 and 15.2 degrees Celsius. Ambala, Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak, Sirsa and Gurugram in Haryana also received rain, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 14.8, 14.5, 13.4, 15.2 and 15 degrees Celsius.
