Rudraprayag News: 5 people died in a landslide accident near Sonprayag on the Kedarnath highway on Monday. The accident took place about a kilometer away from Gaurikund towards Sonprayag, when debris and stones started falling on the passengers from the hill. As soon as the information about the accident was received, the police, administration, SDRF and NDRF launched a joint rescue operation. On the night of the first day, due to bad weather and continuous debris falling, there were difficulties in the rescue work, due to which the operation had to be stopped at night. The district police had stopped the movement after 6:30 pm for security reasons. The passengers who had gone from Gaurikund to Sonprayag before this time period became victims of the accident.

 

This morning, when the weather improved and the debris stopped falling, the rescue teams resumed their work. During this time, 3 bodies were found in an unconscious state, which were declared dead by the doctors. After this, another woman was found in an unconscious state, who also died. Thus, the total number of deaths has gone up to 5. The names of the people who died in this accident are Gopal (age 50 years) son of Bhaktram resident of Dhar Madhya Pradesh, Durgabai Khapar (age 50 years) wife of Sanghan Lal resident of Dhar Madhya Pradesh, Titli Devi (70) wife of Rajendra Mandal resident of district Dhanwa Nepal, Bharat Bhai Niralal (52) son of Niralal Patel resident of Khatodara Surat Gujarat and Samanbai (50) wife of Shalak Ram resident of Jhijhora Dhar Madhya Pradesh. 

 

Relief and rescue operations are underway


five people were killed and three injured in the landslide that occurred on Monday near Sonprayag on the Kedarnath Highway. These people are Jeevach Tiwari (60), son of Ramcharit, resident of Dhanwa Nepal, Manpreet Singh (30), son of Kashmir Singh, resident of West Bengal, and Chhaganlal (45), son of Bhakt Ram, resident of Rajot Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. The temporarily blocked route has now been reopened for pedestrian traffic. Pilgrims stranded at Gaurikund since late night are being sent towards Sonprayag safely. The administration is taking necessary steps for the safety of the pilgrims.
