New Delhi. Who is New Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi: The central government announced on Tuesday night that Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi will be the next Army Chief, replacing the current General Manoj Pandey. He will replace General Manoj Pandey on this post.

Let us tell you that General Pandey was earlier supposed to retire on 31 May, but the government took a rare step last month and extended his tenure by a month a few days before his retirement. In such a situation, now General Pandey will retire on 30 June and only after this Lieutenant General Dwivedi will take over as Army Chief. Let's know who is the new Army Chief- 

How educated is Upendra Dwivedi-

  • Born on July 1, 1964, Upendra Dwivedi is an alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa and was commissioned into the 18 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles of the Indian Army on December 15, 1984. He later commanded the unit.
  • Lt Gen Dwivedi is an alumnus of the National Defence College and the US Army War College.
  • Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi has also completed studies at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and Army War College, Mhow. 
  • The Lieutenant General holds an M.Phil. in Defence and Management Studies, and two Master's degrees in Strategic Studies and Military Science.

  1. Born on July 1, 1964, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi joined the Army's Jammu and Kashmir Rifles on December 15, 1984. During his long and distinguished service of nearly 40 years, he has served in various command, staff and foreign appointments. His command appointments include command of a regiment (18 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles), brigade (Sector 26 Assam Rifles), DIG East of Assam Rifles, Corps (IX Corps) and Chief of Northern Command (2022 to 2024).
  2. Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi has also been the Director General of Infantry. He has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and three GOC-in-C commendations. He has studied at Sainik School, National Defense College and US Army War College in Rewa.
  3. Lieutenant General Dwivedi has also received training at the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington and the Army War College, Mhow (Madhya Pradesh). He has done F.Phil in Defence and Management Studies and has two postgraduate degrees in Strategic Studies and Military Science.
  4. In his journey of nearly 40 years, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi has handled various commands as well as worked in foreign appointments. Talking about his command deployment, he has been active in the command of 18 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles Regiment, Assam Rifles and 9 Corps. Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi has been awarded PVSM (Param Vishisht Seva Medal), AVSM (Ati Vishisht Seva Medal) and three GOC-in-C Commendation Cards.
  5. The new Army Chief Dwivedi is known for his operational experience on the China and Pakistan border. Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi has extensive operational experience on the borders with China and Pakistan. As the Northern Army Commander, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi showed great skills in planning and successfully completing continuous military operations on the northern and western borders.
