New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday pulled up the Bengal government, expressing dissatisfaction over the slow progress made by it in installing CCTVs, construction of toilets and separate rest rooms in government medical colleges.
The apex court directed the government to complete the ongoing work by October 15. The Supreme Court was hearing a suo motu case related to the rape and murder of a PG doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The court asked- why is the progress slow?
A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra said that no part of the work done by the state government is more than 50 percent complete. The bench asked senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi, appearing for the Bengal government, 'Why is the progress of the work so slow? You have to take action i.e. speed up the work.'
On this, advocate Dwivedi said that some progress has been made and we need more time to complete the work. He said that there has been a delay in logistics due to delay in release of funds and floods etc. A total of 6,178 CCTV cameras were to be installed, of which 26 percent work has been completed and the remaining work will be completed by October 10.
