Uttarakhand News: As part of preparations for the upcoming municipal elections in Uttarakhand, the Urban Development Department has released the list of reservations for the city chief posts of 11 municipal corporations. This list has been proposed under the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1959 and other related rules. The purpose of this notification is to give representation to various classes in the municipal corporations.

The government has prepared this list keeping in mind social balance and political participation. The proposed reservation includes Scheduled Caste (SC), Other Backward Caste (OBC), Women and Unreserved categories.

According to the list released by the Urban Development Department, the reservation for the posts of city chief of 11 municipal corporations is as follows:

1. Dehradun: Unreserved
2. Rishikesh: Scheduled Caste
3. Haridwar: Other Backward Caste (Women)
4. Roorkee: Women
5. Kotdwar: Unreserved
6. Srinagar: Unreserved
7. Rudrapur: Unreserved
8. Kashipur: Unreserved
9. Haldwani: Other Backward Caste
10. Pithoragarh: Women
11. Almora: Women

After the release of this notification, the Urban Development Department has invited suggestions and objections. Common citizens, political parties and other concerned parties can give their opinion on this proposal.

 

At the same time, the government has clarified that all suggestions and objections will be considered, after which the final list will be prepared. As soon as the reservation list was released, discussions have intensified among political parties and social organizations. Many parties are considering it an inclusive and democratic step, while some are calling it the reason for regional imbalance.

Special attention is being paid to the reservation of major municipal corporations like Dehradun, Haridwar and Haldwani, as the election results of these cities can affect the politics of the state. Especially in Haridwar and Haldwani, the equation of potential candidates can change due to reservation for OBC category. The Urban Development Department has ensured that the reservation list has been prepared with the aim of giving representation to all sections of the society. Additional Secretary Gaurav Kumar said, "This process is a step taken towards strengthening democracy and giving opportunity of participation to different sections."
