Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the father of economic reforms and who led the country for 10 years, died on Thursday. India is mourning the death of Dr. Manmohan Singh, one of its most respected leaders. Rising from a humble background, he became a distinguished economist. He held many positions including Finance Minister. He left a deep mark on our economic policy for years. His contribution inside the Parliament is very important. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve the lives of the people.
Former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, who started his academic career as a student of economics, was successful in making a name for himself as a successful economist, policy maker and a politician, and he was also a superstar who changed the face of the Indian economy. A superstar whose strength is acknowledged by the whole world. Dr. Singh started his career as a teacher. He taught at Punjab University, Delhi School of Economics and Delhi University. After teaching, he entered the administrative services.

- 1954: Received master's degree in Economics from Punjab University.
- 1957: Economics Tripos (three-year degree programme) from the University of Cambridge.
- 1962: D.Phil in Economics from Oxford University.
- 1971: Joined the Government of India as Economic Adviser in the Ministry of Commerce.
- 1972: Appointed Chief Economic Adviser in the Ministry of Finance.
- 1980-82: Member of Planning Commission.
- 1982–1985: Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
- 1985-87: Served as Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission.
- 1987-90: Secretary General of the South Commission in Geneva.
- 1990: Appointed Advisor to the Prime Minister on Economic Affairs.
- 1991: Appointed Chairman of the University Grants Commission.
- 1991: Elected to the Rajya Sabha from Assam and re-elected in 1995, 2001, 2007 and 2013.
- 1991-96: Finance Minister in P V Narasimha Rao government.
- 1998-2004: Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha.
- 2004-2014: Prime Minister of India.
