New Delhi. International Yoga Day 2024 is being celebrated today i.e. on 21st June. Along with this, today is going to be the longest day of the year and the shortest night of the year. This is a day when the Earth is closest to the Sun and the sun's rays also remain on the Earth for a longer time. The longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere falls between 20 and 22 June. In English, this day is called Summer Solstice. In such a situation, let us know what is the significance of this day from a religious point of view.

Religious significance of this day

According to the Panchang, this day is celebrated as Summer Solstice or Cancer Sankranti. According to Hindu traditions, this day is considered auspicious for the worship of Sun God. With this, the seeker can get auspicious results. On this day, the axial tilt of the Earth is more towards the Sun, due to which the duration of the day increases. According to the Panchang, sunrise on 21 June 2024 was at 05:23 am. At the same time, the time of sunset will be 07:22 am.

This is why shadows are not formed

It is believed that on this day, there is a moment during the afternoon when no shadow is formed. The scientific reason behind this is that during this time, the Sun is situated on the Tropic of Cancer, that is, the Sun becomes exactly perpendicular to the Tropic of Cancer, due to which its light falls directly on the earth and due to this reason, the shadow stops being formed
