India's Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar is on a US visit. During his official visit, the Foreign Minister met Michael Waltz, the nominee of the newly elected President Donald Trump for National Security Advisor (NSA).
Speaking during the meeting, he said, "He is looking forward to working with him." Both External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and the next US NSA Waltz held extensive talks on bilateral partnership between India and the US as well as current global issues. The External Affairs Minister is currently on an official visit to the US from December 24-29.
'It's a pleasure to meet you Waltz this evening'
This was the first highest-level in-person meeting between the Indian government and the incoming Trump administration. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar posted on Twitter: "Glad to meet Waltz this evening. Looking forward to working with him on partnership as well as current global issues."
Waltz, 50, will replace Jake Sullivan as national security adviser on January 20, when Trump is sworn in as the 47th president of the United States.
'Two-day conference concludes'
Earlier on Friday, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar had said he had just concluded a much-needed two-day conference of the Indian Embassy team and our Consul General in Washington DC. He posted on X, Michael Waltz, a congressman from Florida who is co-chair of the India Caucus, is the new national security adviser to US President-elect Trump.
Waltz is also a retired Army colonel who served as a Green Beret, an elite special forces unit of the US Army. He has also been a member of the US House of Representatives since 2019.
'Countries are nervous about America'
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had earlier said, 'After the presidential election, many countries are nervous about America. But India is not among those countries. Jaishankar said at a program here, 'I think the Prime Minister was also included in the first three phone calls made to President Trump.'
