Elon Musk has made a big announcement regarding H-1B visa in America. He said that the system used to bring skilled foreign workers to America is broken and needs major reform. He says that he can even fight a war to save the H-1B visa program.

Musk and Indian-American tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy have recently clashed with supporters of US President-elect Donald Trump over the polarising issue of immigration. Elon Musk, who himself came from South Africa on an H-1B, posted on social media site X saying the H-1B programme is broken and needs major reform.

What did Elon Musk say?

In fact, Trump was responding to a user who said that the US needs to become a destination for the world's most elite talent, but the H-1B program is not the way to do it. Musk said that this could be easily fixed by increasing the minimum wage and adding an annual cost to maintain the H-1B, which would actually make it more expensive to hire from abroad than domestically. Last week, Musk had said that bringing elite engineering talent from abroad is necessary for the US to keep winning.

Ramaswami also echoed Musk's views. He argued that American culture has long celebrated mediocrity.

"A culture that celebrates prom queens rather than math Olympiad champions will not produce the best engineers," he posted on X.

Trump supports Elon Musk

Trump has also supported Elon Musk, he said that he believes in this program. He said, 'I have always liked visas, I have always been in favor of visas. That's why we have it.' Donald Trump said, 'There are many people with H-1B visas on my property. I believe in H-1B. I have used it many times and it is a great program.'
