According to the legend, once in ancient times Maharishi Parashar went out for a tour. During this time his eyes fell on a woman named Satyavati. She was the daughter of a fisherman, she was very beautiful. Her body used to smell of fish, because she was born in a fisherman's house. That is why she was also called Matsyagandha. The sage became restless after seeing her, but Parashar expressed his desire to give Satyavati a child.
Hearing this from the sage, Satyavati was very surprised and said that how can I have such an immoral relationship. It is useless to have a child in this way. In such a situation, the sage said that the child who will be born from your womb will do great work for the whole world. Satyavati accepted the sage's words, but first she put her three conditions in front of the sage. The first condition was that no one should see while having sex. In the second condition, she said that the child to be born should be a great scholar and should never break my virginity in life. At the same time, the third condition was that the smell coming from the body should turn into the fragrance of flowers. After this, a son was born from Satyavati's womb, who was named Dwaipayan who later came to be known as Ved Vyas.
According to religious belief, Maharishi Ved Vyas was born on the full moon day of the month of Ashadh. He is considered to be the author of unique Vedic literature and philosophy such as Mahabharata, eighteen Puranas, Brahmasutra, Mimansa.
