Since time immemorial, Lord Vishnu has incarnated in different forms to establish religion. If we believe the scriptures, in Kalyug, Lord Vishnu will incarnate in the form of Kalki to kill the wicked and protect his devotees. Worshiping Lord Vishnu increases happiness and prosperity. Also, all kinds of sorrows and troubles go away. Astrologers also recommend worshiping Vishnu Ji to strengthen Guru in the horoscope. But do you know why rice is not offered to Lord Vishnu? Come, let's know the mythological story-
Story
According to Sanatan scriptures, not offering rice to Lord Vishnu is connected to Medha Rishi. Medha Rishi was an ardent devotee of the goddess of the world, Maa Durga, and was the narrator of Durga Saptashati. In simple words, it was Rishi Medha who imparted the knowledge of Durga Saptashati to King Surath and Vaishya Samadhi. Durga Saptashati was composed by Rishi Markandeya. There are seven hundred verses in this Purana. At the same time, the number of Puranas is eighteen. Medha Rishi has described the glory of Maa Durga through Durga Saptashati. Along with this, he advised King Surath and Vaishya Samadhi to worship Maa Durga.
In the past, King Surath and Vaishya Samadhi pleased Maa Durga by performing hard devotion. Pleased with the hard devotion, Maa Durga granted the desired result to King Surath. It is said that to please the goddess of the world, Maa Durga, Medha herself performed hard penance of Jagat Janani. In the past, Medha Rishi merged into the five elements. At that time, a small part of the five elements merged into the earth. Barley and Akshat grew in place of this part. Barley and Akshat are considered auspicious in the scriptures. Barley is offered to the major deities. Along with this, Akshat is also presented during worship. Sadhaks apply Akshay on the Tilak.
Lord Vishnu is the protector of the suffering and the sages. Lord Vishnu quickly listens to the cries of his devotees. On the other hand, barley and rice are food grains. Food means Shridhan. Food is considered the symbol of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Therefore, rice is not offered to Lord Vishnu. Also, rice is not eaten on Ekadashi Tithi. Doing so leads to a sin and weakens the Moon in the horoscope. The colour of rice is white. White colour is the symbol of the Moon. Weak Moon causes mental stress. Also, there are obstacles in auspicious works. Apart from Moon, the health of the mother is not good. For this, astrologers advise not to offer rice to Vishnu Ji. Sadhaks can offer Akshat mixed with or applied turmeric to Lord Vishnu.
Why not offer colored rice?
Lord Shiva is the first yogi. He is Trilokinath. He loves white colour. For this he has worn the moon on his head. He is called Chandrashekhar for wearing the moon on his head. Unbroken rice is offered to Lord Shiva but coloured rice is not offered. Legend has it that long ago an ascetic unknowingly offered turmeric and lemon together to Lord Shiva. This stained Lord Shiva's body with blood. Seeing this, Maa Parvati panicked. At that time Maa Parvati manifested Maa Kali and advised to destroy the ascetic. Maa Kali reached Bhulok to destroy the ascetic. Knowing this, the ascetic started pleading to Lord Shiva. Then Lord Shiva advised Maa Kali not to do so. Also, Maa Parvati pleaded to forgive the ascetic for his mistake. Maa Parvati agreed and forgave the ascetic. Since time immemorial, coloured rice is not offered to Lord Shiva. Sadhaks can offer white rice to Lord Shiva. At the same time, kumkum is also not offered.
