Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday that the Narendra Modi-led government is emphasizing on four major areas, infrastructure, investment, innovation and inclusiveness, to make India a developed nation by 2047. She said this while interacting with the students of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The Finance Minister arrived here on Tuesday afternoon to participate in the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. She came by car from New York to Washington DC. Meanwhile, she stayed at the University of Pennsylvania.

We will be a developed country on the 100th anniversary of independence 

Sitharaman told the students, "In the year 2047, when we will be celebrating 100 years of independence from British rule, we want and aspire to become a developed country." The Finance Minister said that to achieve this goal, the government has identified four major areas - infrastructure, investment, innovation and inclusiveness. She also said, "There is a provision for positive action in the Constitution. You have to uplift the poor, you have to uplift the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. This is a commitment given in the Constitution." 

The government is focusing on four categories

The minister said that apart from this, there is a need to understand and meet the needs of four categories – farmers, women, youth and the poor. According to him, it is also necessary to ensure that they get access to resources and opportunities.
