Beijing: An investigation has been launched against the Chinese Communist Party's former Tibet chief Wu Yingjie for serious violations of party discipline and corruption. He is currently a member of the Standing Committee of the national advisory body Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). He is reportedly in custody.
The investigation going on in this case
News agency PTI quoted Xinhua news agency as saying that Wu is under investigation on suspicion of serious violation of discipline and law. With the new case, the number of senior officials under investigation from January to June this year has increased to 33. This also includes Wang Yong, a member of the party leadership group and vice president of the Tibet Autonomous Region Government, who was put under investigation in January.
Several officials under investigation
Thousands of party-related officials, including high-ranking military officers, have been placed under investigation for corruption since Chinese President Xi Jinping took power in 2012.
