Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswami's advocacy for expanding the H1B visa program for highly skilled workers has sparked a debate. A big division has emerged within Donald Trump's team over this. Musk and Ramaswami are both foreign-born leaders and are leading Trump's government efficiency department.

Musk has stressed the importance of attracting top engineering talent to maintain America's technological edge. He said that the number of talented engineers in America is very low. Think of it like a professional sports team. If you want your team to win championships, you have to recruit top talent, no matter where they are.

Accused of weakening America First policy

Ramaswami has reiterated Musk's sentiments. This has been opposed by those who prefer to curb immigration. People like Lara Loomer, Ann Coulter and Matt Gaetz have expressed their displeasure. They accused it of weakening the America First policy.

The former governor of South Carolina also became a part of the debate

Gaetz said that we have not asked them to make immigration policy. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has also joined the debate. She stressed the importance of investing in the American workforce, saying, 'If the tech industry needs workers, invest in our education system. We should invest in Americans before looking elsewhere.'

Indians are the highest number of H-1B visa holders

Indians make up the highest 70 percent of H-1B visa holders, so the biggest impact of the change in its policy will be on Indians. Also, the presence of Indians among H-1B visa holders on such a large scale shows the importance of Indian professionals in America's tech industry. But Trump's supporters are not liking this.
