Every year, the great festival of folk faith Chhath is celebrated in the months of Chaitra and Kartik. Chhath Puja of Chaitra month is also called Chaiti Chhath or Yamuna Chhath . Like Kartik Chhath Puja, Chaiti Chhath is also celebrated from Chaturthi Tithi to Saptami Tithi of Shukla Paksha. 

 

Chhath Puja begins with Nahai Khay. Kharna is celebrated the next day. At the same time, evening prayers are offered on the sixth day of Shukla Paksha. Whereas, the festival ends with offering prayers to the rising Sun God on the seventh day. This fast is celebrated with great pomp in Bihar, Nepal and eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh. The correct date of Chaiti Chhath Puja

  • Nahai-Khai is on 1st April. On this day, the devotees take bath and meditate and worship the Sun God and the family deity or the mother goddess. After this, they eat food. On this auspicious occasion, rice, gram dal and pumpkin vegetable are eaten in the meal.  
  • Kharna will be celebrated on 2nd April. On this day, women observe fast throughout the day. They consume prasad after performing Kharna puja in the evening. 
  • Sandhya Arghya will be offered on April 3. Arghya is offered to the setting Sun God on the sixth day of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month .
  • Morning Arghya will be offered on 4th April. Arghya is offered to the rising Sun God on the Saptami Tithi of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. Chhath Puja will conclude with this. Worshipping the Sun God gives the blessing of a healthy life. By observing Chhath Puja fast, newly married couples get the gift of a son. 

Auspicious time of Chaiti Chhath (Chaiti Chhath Shubh Muhurat)

According to the Vedic calendar, the Shashthi Tithi of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month will begin on April 2 at 11:49 pm. It will end on April 3 at 9:41 pm. After this, Saptami Tithi will begin. Sandhya Arghya is offered on April 3. Sunset on this day will be at 6:40 pm. Sunrise on Saptami Tithi i.e. April 4 will be at 6:08 am.
