
Karnataka molest case An incident that brought shame to the country came to light on Thursday night in Karnataka. Here three people allegedly gang-raped two women. These include a 27-year-old Israeli tourist and a homestay operator.
Canal bank incident in Koppal
The incident occurred when she, along with three other travellers, was stargazing on the serene banks of a canal in Koppal, around 350 km from tech hub Bengaluru.
Three passengers were pushed into the canal
The accused pushed three passengers into the canal before targeting the women. While Daniel from the US and Pankaj from Maharashtra managed to swim out, Bibash from Odisha drowned. His body was recovered on Saturday morning.
This is the whole matter
Police said the accused, who were on a motorcycle, first asked for a petrol pump and then demanded Rs 100 from the entire group of travellers. When the travellers refused to pay, the accused turned violent. They attacked people and pushed the male tourists into the canal and then sexually assaulted the women.
Two male tourists, Daniel from the US and Pankaj from Maharashtra, managed to escape, while the third tourist, Bibash from Odisha, drowned.
Case registered under several sections
Koppal Superintendent of Police Ram L Arasiddi said that a case has been registered under several sections of the Indian Penal Code. It includes charges of gang rape, robbery and attempted murder. Police said that we have formed six special teams to catch the accused. Immediate action was taken after the woman's complaint and the investigation is in full swing.
The attack has raised serious concerns about security in the popular tourist destination of Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Locals have urged authorities to increase security measures in the area to prevent such heinous crimes in the future.
