You must have seen many such films in which the villain is hated as soon as you see him. The villain had to face hatred from people in real life too. But 26 years ago, a rare film was released in which the villain was appreciated and sympathized with by the audience more than the hero. This film is Darr.
Yash Chopra's superhit film Darr, released in 1993, revolves around Kiran (Juhi Chawla), Rahul ( Shah Rukh Khan ) and Sunil Malhotra (Sunny Deol). Rahul loves Kiran madly, but she falls in love with Sunil. He goes after Kiran and tries to kill Sunil. Shah Rukh Khan played the role of Rahul Mehra brilliantly. This film made him a star overnight.
Shah himself was afraid of rejecting the stance
Shah Rukh may have gained popularity from Darr, but initially he was about to reject this film. Actually, he got the role of a villain in Baazigar. During the same time, he was also offered Darr. The actor was afraid that playing the role of a villain would become his image, but that did not happen. Instead of becoming a villain, he became the hero of the audience. But do you know that Shah Rukh was not the first choice for this role. Many actors had got this role before him.
The director did not agree to Aamir's condition
Before Shah Rukh, this film was offered to Aamir Khan , but due to one of his conditions, he was removed from the film. In an interview given to Sushma Dutt, Aamir Khan said about this, “Yash Chopra is a very good director. I have worked with him in Parampara and was very eager to work with him again. But I have a principle or you can say a policy, that if I am working on a film with two heroes, then I ask the director for joint narration.”
Aamir Khan further said, "I want the director to narrate the story to both the heroes together. This approach ensures that both of us are satisfied with our roles and helps avoid any problems later. I like working this way but in this case it was not possible. Yash ji did not feel that he should be given a joint narration. On this basis, I was removed from the project."
Rahul Roy regrets leaving the film
Apart from Aamir Khan, actor Rahul Roy, who became popular with Aashiqui, was also offered Darr. Not only this, the script was also written keeping the actor in mind. But it could not happen. When Archana Puran Singh asked Rahul on Kapil Sharma Show that which role he regrets rejecting, the actor said, "I was offered a film and I talked to Yash Chopra and Honey Tehran. Later that film was made as Darr and the character of Rahul was written keeping me in mind. So this is my biggest regret that I could not do that film but you learn to live with it."
The film was also offered to Ajay Devgan
Ajay Devgan was also approached by Yash Chopra for the role of Rahul Mehra in Darr but the actor lost the role as he was busy with another film and showed no interest in the film.
