Dubai: After the Iranian army, now the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has also threatened a major retaliation against Israel. On Saturday, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei threatened to give a "befitting reply" to Israel and the US for the attacks on Iran and its allies. This threat by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei came after Israel's retaliatory attack on the Islamic Republic on October 26. It is clear from this that Iranian officials are talking about another attack against Israel. Earlier, on October 1, Iran attacked Tel Aviv in support of Hamas and Hezbollah.
In retaliation, Israel targeted Iranian military installations and other sites on October 26, killing at least five people. Any other attack by either side could entangle West Asia in a wider regional conflict just ahead of the US presidential election this Tuesday, already roiled by the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip and Israel's ground campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon. "The enemy, whether the Jewish regime or the US, will definitely receive a befitting reply for what they are doing," Khamenei said in a video released by Iran's state media. He did not elaborate on the timing or scope of the retaliation.
America is active in West Asia
The US military is active across the Middle East. Some of its troops are now manning the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) air defense system in Israel. Khamenei (85) had earlier taken a more cautious tone in remarks, saying officials would evaluate Iran's actions and that Israel's attack "should not be exaggerated or underestimated."
However, Iran's attempt to hide the impact of the attack failed and satellite images analyzed by the Associated Press showed that the attacks damaged military bases near Tehran linked to the country's ballistic missile program and also damaged the Revolutionary Guard's satellite launch facility. Iran's allies like Hamas and Hezbollah have also suffered heavy losses in Israel's attacks and many of their top commanders have been killed.
