New Delhi: Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) increase employment opportunities or take away jobs? Amidst this long-running debate, the business world has taken a lot of steps towards change. Although its effect is not visible directly right now, companies have increased the use of AI in their human resource related work.
The latest report of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), a global organization working in the field of human resources, says that 65 percent of the companies surveyed by it have admitted that they are now taking the help of AI in hiring new employees. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) plus Human Intelligence (HI) report was released at the annual conference of SHRM held in New Delhi yesterday.
In this study, the main effort has been made to know how much impact AI has had or is having on the business world. Since thousands of big business groups of the world are associated with this organization, the organization has prepared this report on the basis of the feedback received from those companies. It has been told that 65 percent of the companies participating in the survey said that the competition for employment is so high that thousands of applications are received for a single job.
In such a situation, the challenge of hiring a better person increases for the HR manager. Keeping this in mind, AI is now being used in the hiring process. This is making it easier and faster to identify potential. Similarly, 37 percent of companies have started taking the help of AI in employee training and development programs.
The number of companies using AI in performance management system has increased to 28 percent. Companies estimate that this has improved the system of monitoring, testing ability and motivating employees doing better work for the HR department. Through AI they are getting feedback along with data and are getting help in identifying the areas of deficiency and improving them.
Companies have also given feedback on the reasons behind these changes. For example, 87 percent of companies have agreed that upskilling and reskilling of employees is very important now. 86 percent of companies have said that competition in business has increased due to AI.
77 percent feel that they are under pressure to increase productivity, while 73 percent feel that now is the time to increase creativity and make changes with AI. However, 55 percent of companies have also expressed fear of regulatory systems becoming complex and 54 percent have also expressed fear of increased cyber attacks due to increased use of AI.
However, to address all concerns, SHRM has also advised companies to increase the use of AI in workforce management and to develop clear AI policies.
