What is acne?

Acne is a very common skin condition that occurs when the skin pores get clogged due to oil and dead cells. Actually, there are oil glands (sebaceous glands) present under our skin, which produce oil. This oil helps in keeping the skin naturally moisturized, but if due to some reason it starts getting produced in excess, then it can clog the pores. Dead skin cells, pollution etc. combine with them and close the pores, in which bacteria start growing and acne occurs.

There are many types of acne, such as whiteheads, blackheads, cystic acne and nodular acne. Of these, whiteheads and blackheads are quite common, but cystic and nodular acne can damage the skin and cause permanent scars or pits. Although these acne can occur on any part of the body, they mostly occur on the face, especially on the forehead, cheeks, nose and near the jaw line. The part of the face on which they are occurring can tell about a health condition.

What does acne say?

To know what acne on different parts of the face can tell us about our health, we spoke to Dr. Pawan Kumar Goyal (Director, Department of Internal Medicine, Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh). In this regard, he said that acne can indicate health problems. Usually, it is associated with internal imbalances in the body.

Forehead

Forehead acne is often linked to digestive problems and liver function. Poor diet, lack of sleep and stress can also cause forehead acne. Apart from this, clogging of skin pores due to hair care products can also be a reason. Therefore, to reduce it, it is advisable to drink plenty of water, reduce sugar intake and manage stress.

Cheeks

Acne on the cheeks can be linked to problems related to the respiratory system. This problem can become more severe due to smoking and allergies. One of the reasons for this can be dirty pillows, makeup brushes and phones. Therefore, to avoid this, take special care of hygiene. Change your pillow cover regularly, clean makeup brushes and keep the phone screen clean. Also, avoiding pollution can also reduce this problem.

Chin

Acne on the chin may be related to hormonal imbalance. In women, the main reason for this can be hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle. To reduce it, managing stress, taking a balanced diet and consulting a doctor for hormonal treatment can be helpful.

Jaw line

Acne on the jawline can also be caused by hormonal imbalances, especially fluctuations in androgen levels, which can increase oil production. Also, poor diet and excessive stress can also cause acne on the jawline. Acne here also indicates the state of gut health.
