Dhaka. Bangladesh Crisis: Unrest continues in Bangladesh after the uproar started over the reservation issue. Amid the ongoing turmoil in the neighboring country, prominent student organizer Akram Hussain described the last 16 years of rule of the Awami League as 'dictatorial and fascist'.
Hossain described the Awami League rule as a period of "disappearances, killings and anarchy". He said the nationwide unrest reflected the long-simmering frustration among the people.
The result of the long-suppressed anger of the common man
Hossain also said that the fall of this regime has brought out the long-suppressed anger and emotional grievances of the common man. He also condemned the way the police handled the situation. Hossain claimed that the violence has further increased after Sheikh Hasina resigned and left for India on Monday afternoon.
In an interview with the Dhaka Tribune, Hussain said that 'Not only this, after dictator Sheikh Hasina left for India, the police and her supporters attacked the crowd of students.'
The moral foundation of the entire police force has been destroyed.
According to Hussain, the police failed to fulfil their duty to manage the unrest in a peaceful manner. He said the dictatorial government has shattered the moral foundation of the entire police force. As a result, a large number of policemen have fired on the innocent student crowd.
Hussain said that public jubilation and violence usually follow the fall of any dictatorship in Bangladesh. However, he stressed that they have managed to restore order quickly. He said that 24-hour security has already been put in place at all possible locations so that no miscreants can spread chaos.
What to expect from the interim government?
Akram Hussain highlighted the need to correct the widespread party bias that developed during Sheikh Hasina's rule. He said, 'The partyism that took place in all areas during Hasina's fascist rule must be changed.'
Looking to the future, Hossain assured that the interim government would prioritise rebuilding the police force and restoring its prestige. He vowed that measures would be taken to prevent the formation of a 'fascist state structure' in Bangladesh. According to Hossain, the interim administration will focus on building a team that gains the trust of all parties and promotes an inclusive society.
