The owner fought a legal battle
For years, the building's owner and Los Angeles-based real estate firm Hertz Investment Group fought a legal battle with its insurance provider Zurich, The Advocate reports. The owner demanded an estimated $167 million to repair the building. However, after a settlement was reached between the two, the building was demolished by the administration.
