Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated dramatically following a fresh cycle of military strikes and counter-strikes in the Middle East. After American forces launched precision airstrikes against Iranian installations on Larak Island, Tehran retaliated swiftly by deploying drone strikes against US military personnel stationed at the Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, alongside shooting down an advanced American MQ-9 Reaper drone over the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

According to reports from Al Jazeera and Iranian state media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched dozens of kamikaze drones targeting areas housing US soldiers and military helicopters at the UAE's Al Minhad Air Base early in the morning. Iran stated that the operation was executed in direct retaliation for the earlier American airstrikes on Larak Island, which Tehran claims resulted in the deaths of IRGC personnel and civilian casualties.
Further intensifying the confrontation, the IRGC claimed responsibility for shooting down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone over the Strait of Hormuz using advanced air defense systems, sending the wreckage plunging into the waters below.
The Spark: US Strikes on Larak Island Over Alleged Sea Mines
The latest military flare-up began when United States forces executed targeted airstrikes against two rocket launchers on Larak Island. Washington defended the action by stating that intelligence indicated the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was actively preparing to lay dangerous naval sea mines across the vital shipping lanes of the Strait of Hormuz. According to US defense officials, the limited strikes were necessary to safeguard international commercial shipping and protect civilian mariners. However, Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that the strikes resulted in two deaths and multiple injuries.
